Thank you for your interest in getting the most out of your beans. One of the biggest misconceptions I hear all the time is, “coffee last forever, it doesn’t go bad”. That is true and false. Let me explain.
Coffee does not spoil per-se, but the freshness and enjoyable flavor DOES have a shelf-life. A good bottle of wine can age for decades, but after you open it, would you really let it sit on the shelf for months on end, then start drinking it? Of course not, so why would you treat your gourmet beans that way. Treat your beans like a fine wine. After they have reached the resting period that’s listed on the bag, they are optimal for 2-4 weeks. The reason for the huge swing is how you store them. In the coming months I will give you tons of great tips on how to properly store, make, and enjoy your coffee. When you are buying a gourmet bean, it deserves the very best options of getting it into your cup, e.g., proper storage, grinding, and brewing/making.
I’ve never understood how people will spend $20-$50 dollars for a pound for their coffee, but they use a blade style grinder, (which by the way are the worst type of grinder you can buy). They should be against the law unless you are buying cheap coffee, then blade away!!! You will never make that coffee taste good no matter what you do to it 😉.
